Palmetto Imaging does not currently have a contrast shortage

Updated: Thursday, April 18, 2024

A manageable situation

There is a current nationwide X-ray and CT contrast shortage. A Chinese factory that produces approximately 50% of the contrast used in the USA was temporarily shut-down due to COVID. It has re-opened and is rapidly increasing production. The nationwide shortage is expected to resolve by early July, 2022.

We obtain contrast from another manufacturer and do not have a contrast shortage at this time.
We are monitoring the X-ray and CT contrast shortage. We will notify you if we become affected by the nationwide shortage.
We will not compromise image quality in response to the nationwide X-ray and CT contrast shortage.
If there is a shortage, we may recommend:

Switching to an alternative imaging exam if it is not expected to affect patient care
Delaying non-critical contrast X-ray and CT exams until the shortage is resolved

Contrast MR examinations are not affected by this shortage.

Patients

Rest assured, we will not compromise image quality in response to the nationwide shortage. We will notify your referring doctor if we become affected by the nationwide shortage and need to make alternate arrangements for your scheduled exam.

We're committed to providing updates

We are committed to delivering safe, timely, effective care. In the upcoming days and weeks, we will continue to share updates as they are available.
